Centre For Race and Culture

The Centre for Race and Culture works within the community to promote and support individual, collective, and systemic change to address racism and encourage intercultural understanding.

CFRAC’S expertise spans workplace development, community building, research, and education.
The Centre provides training and education, organizational development, strategic planning in diversity management, employment equity, cultural audits, development of diverse teams, non-profit organizational capacity building, program design, logic model development, proposal writing, and diverse board development.

Changing Together

Founded in 1984, Changing Together is a non-profit, charitable organization operated by immigrant women for immigrant women. CT’s mission is to help Edmonton and area immigrant women and their families overcome personal and systemic barriers that keep them from participating fully in Canadian Society.

They run the Making Changes Program which is a pre-employment, life skill orientation program with an English component. Their Volunteer Support Program is the only program in the City of Edmonton specifically designed to serve immigrant women by helping them to acquire new skills in their new country, and eventually to secure employment of their choice in Canada.

Chinese Cultural Promotion Society

CCPS is a registered non-profit organization established by Mandarin-speaking immigrants from Mainland China for the purpose of mutual support and community development among Mandarin-speaking individuals and families in Edmonton.

The CCPS provides relevant services and support such as: education, consultation, and information with a two-pronged mandate: 1) Addressing the adaptation and educational needs of Mandarin-speaking immigrant families. 2) Promoting Chinese culture and language to Chinese, non-Chinese adults, and children in Edmonton..

Creating Hope Society

CHS is a non-profit society established to recognize that the sixties and seventies child welfare scoop of Aboriginal children is a continuation of the Residential School era. It believes that it is time to halt the cycle of Aboriginal children being separated from their families and communities.

CHS is carrying forward a healing process, that commenced for Residential School survivors, to those who are products of a Child Welfare system that has perpetuated the legacy of the Residential Schools.

Edmonton Multicultural Coalition

The genesis of the Edmonton Multicultural Coalition can be traced to an innovative project in 2002 aimed at developing civic space and engagement for ethno-cultural communities in the City of Edmonton.

Initially funded by Health Canada through the Voluntary Sector Initiative (VSI), more than 120 community members participated in 36 policy education workshops to identify the major determinants of holistic ethno-cultural communities’ health.
The Coalition is an intercultural and inter-sectoral initiative bringing together members and leaders from ethno-cultural communities to participate meaningfully in the economic and civic life of their neighbourhoods and communities.

Saranay is a Filipino maxim, which means “to help and to serve others” Our association welcomes all nationalities, not only Filipinos, who share deeply rooted values of caring, and compassion for our fellowmen.

The Gabriela Mistral Latin American School are a non-profit organization which relies solely on the efforts and generosity and support of each one of the members of the Edmonton Latin American Community. The school counts on an energetic teachers. Their aim is excellence in teaching Spanish through literacy, language, dance, music, and culture.

Intercultural Child and Family Centre

The vision of the Intercultural Child and Family Centre is to be a recognized model and voice for children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences, where all are welcome.

The ICFC helps refugee and other vulnerable families to become self-sufficient and successful in a number of ways. It is an accredited daycare that is licensed for 69 spaces, and serves children from 19 different ethno-cultural groups. The ICFC also provides family supports to the parents of the children thereby enabling the parents to access services and resources.

International and Heritage Language Association

IHLA offers a variety of supports to schools which include networking advice, professional development, advertisement, and the mentorship program. We also support all kinds of teachers (Canadian- trained, internationally trained, and volunteer) so that they offer meaningful lessons to their students.

IHLA provides teacher training, IHLA Newsletter, professional development, career support and advice. IHLA offers supports to students and their families with the annual Mother Language Day Celebration & the MLD Book.The International and Heritage Languages Association, in 2016, won the UNESCO LinguaPax for work in language conservation that began in 1978. The organization supports heritage language schools, their teachers and their families to maintain and develop their languages.

Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative

For almost 2 decades, the Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative have been helping expectant and new parents, and their families.

They form relationships with families through facilitated pre-natal classes and group sessions; provide caring support to individuals through pre-natal, post-natal, and early parenting; and help families access Alberta Health Services Health for Two resources. The Brokers represent 22 different cultural and linguistic communities in Edmonton and serve over 2,000 families a year.

Ribbon Rouge Foundation

The Ribbon Rouge Foundation is a grassroots organization that focuses on health equity and facilitates social justice through the Arts.

The Ribbon Rouge Foundation facilitates storytelling, community-engaged arts and intentional meaningful community conversations to change perceptions, stir social conscience, educate the public and create positive social change. We remain committed to raising the voices of people who experience poorer health outcomes as a result of racialized health disparities.
